From there, the route climbs inland to Sigiriya, where the 5th-century Lion Rock rises dramatically from the surrounding plains, showcasing the brilliance of ancient Sri Lankan architecture and engineering. Next comes Kandy, the island’s cultural capital: a UNESCO World Heritage hill city nestled among misty mountains and a peaceful lake, home to the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, lush botanical gardens and a rich living tradition of Kandyan dance. The tour closes on the southern coast in Galle, where the 16th-century Galle Fort and the wetlands of the Madu River bring the journey to a relaxed, scenic finish.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival in Negombo
Warm welcome at the airport by your SerenLanka representative and a smooth transfer to your beachfront hotel in Negombo. Check in, unwind, and enjoy a peaceful evening walk along the beach before settling in for the night.
Day 2 — Sigiriya Rock Fortress
After breakfast, depart for Sigiriya to climb the iconic Lion Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the Mirror Wall, the Lion's Gate, the world-famous frescoes and the beautifully designed water gardens, then take in panoramic views from the summit.
Day 3 — Kandy — Temples, Gardens & Culture
Visit the historic Dambulla Cave Temple and a working spice garden en route to Kandy. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, browse the lively Kandy market and a reputable gem museum, then round off the day with an authentic Kandyan cultural dance performance.
Day 4 — South Coast — Galle & the Madu River
Head south to Galle. Enjoy a boat safari on the Madu River, one of Sri Lanka's richest wetlands, before exploring the ramparts, boutiques and stilt fishermen of the 16th-century Galle Fort.
Day 5 — Departure
Free morning at leisure before your transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
